When does playful,  ball-busting banter become ugly, venomous, and hurtful? Even if one partake in said banter, which is a whole other issue, it shouldn’t give anyone license or the right to cross that line and be mean, spiteful, inconsiderate.

Look, no one’s perfect. NO ONE. So when does “harmless” teasing turn into bullying? When does it go from laughing with you to laughing at you? Teasing is light-hearted,  playful, and not consistent. Bullying is mean, meant to embarrass and done repeatedly.

As adults, we can still be bullied and be a bully. Even though you you’re young, it affects you growing up and even possibly carries into your adulthood. We’re better than that aren’t we? I have nothing against the occasional roast…but there’s a line. A line they can cross, and yes, you can cross. People don’t think about it, but words can hurt. Words can be used as weapons coming from outside sources, and inside as well.

“A wise person speaks carefully and with truth, for every word that passes between one’s teeth is meant for something.” – Molefi Kete Asante
